Labor Force

Prime growth potential:
Newtown is strategically located within a 45 minute or less commute to 28% of Connecticut's total labor force made up of 685,979 persons. The wide range of available skilled and semi-skilled workers makes Newtown the choice location for your business. Service industries providing additional opportunities in wholesale and retail trade, finance, insurance, real estate, transportation, utilities and communications have contributed to diversifying our economy, a benefit to residents and business alike.

Newtown's employment distribution is lead by services (37%), manufacturing (21%), trade (19%) and government (13%). Like other communities in Connecticut, local employment has continued to increase among the services producing industries. While the jobs continued to increase in the service sectors, local goods producing industries have maintained steady employment levels.

A Region of Diverse Employment Skills:
Newtown's location at the northeastern edge of the Bridgeport/Stamford labor market area puts us in one of the most productive labor markets in the State of Connecticut. This locale also places us adjacent to the Waterbury and the Danbury Labor Markets where additional work force is available to meet the needs of Newtown employers. To determine whether your work force needs can be accommodated with a Newtown location, all three labor markets should be explored. The CT Department of Labor Links found in the menu below will provide you with a snapshot of our work force.
