Recreation

Parks and Recreation
Five town parks provide residents with swimming, tennis, ice-skating, softball, picnic area, pavilions and playgrounds. Several large tracts of open space have designated areas for passive and active recreation. Our location along the Housatonic River and Lake Zoar provides areas for boating, hiking and outdoor sports. Newtown Parks and Recreation Department sponsors year-round activities, programs and trips. Several hunting, fishing and bridle clubs have large tracts of land and lakes offering a range of recreational opportunities for members. Additional information can be found on-line at these interesting websites: Northwest Connecticut Tourism, Connecticut State Parks, and Welcome to Connecticut Tourism

Two private country club golf courses are located in Newtown. Several public and private courses are close by including Richter Park Golf Course, an 18-hole, par 72 course, rated "one of the top ten public golf courses in the U.S." by Golf Digest. Connecticut Golfer Online
