Five town parks provide residents with swimming, tennis, ice-skating, softball, picnic area, pavilions and playgrounds. Al's Trail is a 10.7 mile hiking trail that winds through large tracts of open space with beautiful vistas to enjoy. Our location along the Housatonic River and Lake Zoar provides areas for boating, hiking and outdoor sports. Newtown Parks and Recreation Department sponsors year-round activities, programs and trips. Several hunting, fishing and bridle clubs have large tracts of land and lakes offering a range of recreational opportunities for members. Golf
Two private country club golf courses are located in Newtown. Several public and private courses are close by including Richter Park Golf Course, an 18-hole, par 72 course, rated "one of the top ten public golf courses in the U.S." by Golf Digest. Connecticut Golfer Online

You will enjoy our boutiques, antiques, specialty shops, and dining found in The Borough of Newtown and in the walking Village of Sandy Hook. Sand Hill Plaza and Plaza South provide a variety of businesses with many small shops along South Main Street in Newtown. Or shop in New England's largest mall, the Danbury Fair Mall, located just 15 minutes away.
The Commission is working with Newtown restaurateurs, Jantris Marketing Services and the Chamber of Commerce of Newtown on our first Newtown Restaurant Week to be held September 6th to 16th, 2011.
Youth & Senior Centers
Newtown has a teen center for high school youths, a multipurpose day care center for pre-schoolers and for our senior citizens to enjoy daily programs, health screening and lunch. |
